PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT

I took a course focused on "Topics in Product Development." In this course, we explored case studies in product development and we created our own product.

EPIPEN REDESIGN CASE STUDY

We learned that EpiPens had a high failure rate and were tasked with creating a safer version. My design changes the shape of the device: I added moulded grip so that a user would immediately understand how to hold the EpiPen. I also changed the safety release mechanism: instead of removing a blue cap at the back, a user would now have to depress a blue button. This makes sure that someone is holding the device correctly with their hands away from the needle end.
I made more changes to the original design: adding sound, creating more space for instructions, and added an app. To see these changes, download my project report below.

BLOOM - CUSTOM PRODUCT

In a group, I helped to create a product called Bloom, inspired to help reduce burnout in Millennials. The device holds your phone for a predetermined work period (usually 25 minutes) and shows a countdown timer. Over the course of the period, a flower on top blooms, providing extra reward for not looking at your phone. This breaks up work periods to a manageable size.
